Brief Introduction to the Multiverse and Teleportation

The multiverse is defined as a hypothetical group of multiple universes. Together, these universes comprise everything that exists: the entirety of space, time, matter, energy, and the physical laws and constants that describe them. The different universes within the multiverse are often called "parallel universes" or "alternate universes". See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multiverse

Does the multiverse really exist? Can we move between alternative universes? How does this relate to teleportation research? Who knows?!?

Back in 1952, Erwin Schrödinger gave a lecture in Dublin in which he jocularly warned his audience that what he was about to say might "seem lunatic". He said that when his equations seemed to describe several different histories, these were "not alternatives, but all really happen simultaneously".

Multiverse and the Physics Community: The physics community has debated the various multiverse theories over time. Prominent physicists are divided about whether any other universes exist outside of our own. Some physicists say the multiverse is not a legitimate topic of scientific inquiry. However, scientific inquiry into multiple universes persists.

Multiverse and Philosophers:
The possibilities opened up by multiverse theory, of multiple and parallel universes, have long been a topic of speculation by philosophers. What is new is the potential for some sort of scientific experimental confirmation or at least indirect evidence that alternative universes exist.

Whatever ultimately comes out of philosophers or scientists studying multiverse theory as it continues to evolve, it will probably be stranger and more wonderful than anything our present-day imaginations can come up with.

Selected Articles on the Multiverse

The following are some recent articles about the multiverse that you might want to read:

  • NBCNews.com - What is the multiverse? Advances in physics over the past 30 years have led some scientists to the mind-boggling conclusion that the universe we inhabit might just be one of many in existence — perhaps an infinite number.
  • Live Science - String Theory May Create Far Fewer Universes Than Thought String theory is an attempt to describe the whole universe under a single "theory of everything" by adding extra dimensions of spacetime and thinking of particles as miniscule vibrating loops. Many string theorists contend it is still the most promising direction for pursuing Albert Einstein's dream of uniting his general theory of relativity with the conflicting microscopic world of quantum mechanics.
  • The Guardian - Stephen Hawking's final theory sheds light on the multiverse Reality may be made up of multiple universes, but each one may not be so different to our own, according to Stephen Hawking’s final theory of the cosmos. The work, completed only weeks before the physicist’s death, paints a simpler picture of the past 13.8 billion years than many previous theories have proposed. Published in the Journal of High Energy Physics, the new work is the result of a long collaboration with Thomas Hertog, a Belgian physicist at the Catholic University of Leuven.

Interdimensional Travel & Teleportation

Now to shift topics a bit and briefly look into ‘Interdimensional Travel’ - moving between alternative universes in the multiverse. Is it possible? What’s the current thinking about interdimensional travel and how does it relate to the topic of teleportation?

Scientific discussions about ‘Interdimensional Travel’, and the portals that might allow it, are everywhere these days. Cosmologist Lisa Randall told the Smithsonian, parallel universes may in fact exist in other dimensions, separated from our own familiar surroundings by distances vastly smaller than the size of an atomic nucleusin other word, right next door. Using ‘black holes’ as the solution for how to open a portal to these other dimensions has been popular in science fiction for decades. What is astonishing is that a growing number of scientists are now starting to think and talk about it. Do your own quick Internet search for scientific articles on Interdimensional Travel.

Cosmology is a branch of astronomy that involves the origin and evolution of the universe, from the Big Bang to today and on into the future. According to NASA, it is "the scientific study of the large scale properties of the universe as a whole." See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cosmology

Will We Have Personal Teleportation in the Future?

Last year, Chinese scientists successfully teleported photons 300 miles into space, renewing the conversation about teleportation in the future.

Quantum teleportation takes on a new dimension - New Atlas

Recently, a team of scientists from the Austrian Academy of Sciences, the University of Vienna, and the University of Science and Technology of China have conducted an experiment showing that quantum teleportation can not only be done in three dimensions, but theoretically it can be done in any number of dimensions. Further exploration into quantum teleportation, the complete conversion of every particle in your body into information, down to the atoms that can then be transmitted to a receiver located wherever you intend to go, all comes down to something called quantum entanglement-which is well over my head.

Teleportation is the theoretical transfer of matter or energy from one point to another without traversing the physical space between them.

Teleportation Update: It will be achieved incrementally this Century Many believe current technology provides no possibility of anything resembling the popular fictional form of teleportation we have seen portrayed in Star Trek movies. However, I prefer to listen to experts like physicist Michio Kaku. He has stated in a number of venues over time that he believes "It is physically possible to teleport an entire human being across the room or maybe onto Mars." We may just have to wait a few more decades before it is possible.

Keep an eye out on this whole field of study as it continues to unfold over the coming decades. It’s really exciting stuff.

Palmetto Conservation Update on US 15/301 Bridge Over Lake Marion

Palmetto Conservation Foundation  provided this update via Facebook on September 12, 2019. Good News!
For South Carolina citizens, especially those living in Clarendon and Orangeburg counties near the towns of Santee and Summerton, we would like to inform you that the SC General Assembly passed the following proviso: 117.162. (GP: Bridge Stabilization and Repair)

The SC Department of Transportation (DOT) and Santee Cooper are jointly directed to develop a detailed plan and cost estimate for stabilizing and repairing the US 15/US 301 bridge over Lake Marion for public pedestrian and bicycle traffic based on a study conducted by the Palmetto Conservation Foundation using the bridge as a connector route for the Palmetto Trail

In developing this plan and cost estimate, the Department of Transportation and Santee Cooper shall include input from the Santee Cooper Counties Promotion Commission, the Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism, Clarendon and Orangeburg Counties, the Cities of Summerton and Santee and the Palmetto Conservation Foundation.

Currently a group of the stakeholders from the above entities are working to meet with SC DOT and Santee Cooper to begin the process of determining the cost involved to reopen the Hwy 301 Bridge between the town of Santee and Clarendon County across Lake Marion. This process is taking time but we are thrilled that we have the backing from the General Assembly in this effort.

We will try to keep you updated on this process and would love to hear from SC citizens who are interested in this project. Please send communication to info@palmettoconservation.org and Mary Shriner of Santee Cooper Country at mshriner@ntinet.com

October 2019 Update: SCDOT has hired an engineering firm to check the safety of the bridge and causeway and to present a cost estimate to stakeholders on making the bridge bicycle/pedestrian/maybe golf cart accessible. SCDOT expects to have the study completed in December with cost estimates to the group by mid January 2020.  Senator Brad Hutto of Orangeburg, SC House of Representative Gilda Cobb Hunter of Orangeburg, Orangeburg Councilman Johnny Ravenel, Summerton Councilman Dwight Stewart, Santee Mayor Donnie Hilliard and Summerton Mayor Mac Bagnal along with representatives from Senator Tim Scott’s office and Senator Lindsay Grahams office are all among supporters of this initiative.

Arts, Culture, and Recreation Activities in Clarendon County, S.C.

The following are selected links to 'Arts, Recreation & Culture (ARC)' web sites and resources in Clarendon County, S.C. It's amazing to see the scope of these activities taking place across the county. Check out some of these links.

... not to mention the Clarendon County Parks & Recreation Department, Manning Azalea Garden Club, DuckFest, Striped Bass Festival, Taste of Manning, BirdFest, Puddin' Swamp Festival, County Historical Archives, Swamp Fox Symposium...

Perhaps its time for the county to bring together a group of community leaders to help better understand, fund, promote, and improve coordination of all these public and private resources and activities dedicated to the Arts, Culture and Recreation (ARC). It could prove to be profitable to the county. Many other larger counties have  already taken the step. What do you think?

* There are currently 905,689 businesses in the US involved in the creation or distribution of the arts, employing 3.35 million people. This represents 4.42 percent of all businesses in the US and 2.15 percent of all employees. Art is big business.

‘Smart' Kitchens and Cooking Technology in the 21st Century

Those of you who have read my previous posts on Smart’ Hats, Smart’Fishing Rods, ‘Smart’Kayaks, ‘Smart’Guns, and ‘Smart’Hiking Sticks - you already know I really often don’t know what I’m talking about. For those who don’t know me, I’m just not much of a big outdoorsman. Instead of going outside to hike, kayak, fish, hunt, or garden, I much prefer to stay at home and interact with the many interconnected and entertaining ‘smart’ systems installed throughout my home.

This article is all about new ‘smart’ kitchen technologies and cooking tools now available to homeowners. You might get a kick out of what is already out there. I can’t wait to try out many of these new devices, and I know you can’t wait to hear about them. So here we go!

Cooking in the 21st Century

Nowadays, whenever I get ready to prepare a meal in my ‘smart’ kitchen, I first ask my ‘smart’ assistant, Alexa, to give me suggestions about what to cook after it checks with my ‘smart’ refrigerator on what food I currently have. I then have it display the proposed recipe and video instructions on my big screen ‘smart’ TV. That way I know exactly what I will be facing when I head to the kitchen my ‘smart’ kitchen of the 21st Century.

Cooking
The art and science of preparing food for consumption. Cooking ingredients and techniques vary widely across the world - from grilling food over an open fire, to using gas or electric stoves, to baking in various types of ovens.

Smart’ Cooking
The art and science of ‘Smart’ Cooking is all about bringing smart appliances, cooking apps, and inter-connectivity technology (e.g. WiFi and Bluetooth) into the kitchen to help improve your cooking experience while also delivering better tasting and more consistent results.

Kitchens are generally considered by many to be the center of today’s home. New ‘smart home’ technologies have now moved into the kitchen and are helping to transform the task of cooking into a more sophisticated, pleasurable, and safe experience.

The global smart’ kitchen appliances market currently consists of ‘smart’ dishwashers, ‘smart’ refrigerators, ‘smart’ ovens, ‘smart’ scales and thermometers, ‘smart’ cookware, ‘smart’ stoves and cooktops, and various other countertop appliances. The global ‘smart’ kitchen appliances market is expected to soar past $3 billion by 2022.

Examples of ‘Smart’ Cooking Technologies & Solutions

Next Generation Kitchen and Cooking Technology and Tools

The 1st generation of ‘smart’ technologies for homeowners is now here – but imagine what technologies and capabilities the next generation of ‘smart’ kitchen and cooking solutions will include. For example – think ‘smart’ personal assistants, robot chefs, augmented reality (AR) software, artificial intelligence (AI), 5G networking, self-driving vehicles and drone delivery systems, 3D food printers… not to mention ‘smart’ ingredients and… computer brain interface technology… Whoa! Cooking in the 21st century could get really weird when you think about it.

As I said before, whenever I head to the kitchen to cook, or go outside nowadays to play tennis, ride around in my boat, watch a ballgame, or do a little gardening… I now try to be ‘smart’ about it. What about you?

* You might want to read some of my other articles on ‘smart’ technologies and solutions, e.g. ‘Smart Gardening, Smart’Fishing Rods, ‘Smart’Kayaks, ‘Smart’Guns, ‘Smart’Hiking Sticks, Smart’ Golfing ...
